Roller Coaster Tycoon: Added Attractions
Hasbro Interactive
Real-Time Building and Strategy

Single Player

Gameplay: Since this is an add-on to Roller Coaster Tycoon, it has exactly the same gameplay as it. Graphics are smooth and cartoony yet realistic enough, there is an easy to use interface that didn't change, too. For more information, see the Roller Coaster Tycoon Review.

Plot: The plot is the same as in Roller Coaster Tycoon (RCT). You start out as a little man trying to make a big theme park. The scenarios don't relate with one another along the lines of a story; but you could look at it like you are Six Flags and making multiple parks.

Originality: Same as RCT, this is a very original game. The only competetors were Sim Theme Park, and that got blown out of the water. See the Roller Coaster Tycoon Reviewfor more information.

Addictiveness (fun): Great fun for all ages; the tradition continues. I often stayed up very late trying to get just one more new scenario. It is fun to see what ride your research department will bring you next, too. For more details, see the Roller Coaster Tycoon Review.

Variety: This expansion on the RCT world gives you more of everything. More scenery, food stalls, rides, paths, walls, and ground types. There are also different types of scenarios, too. In some you have to raise the park value to a certain amount. In others you have to build a certain amount of roller coasters that have an excitement ratinog over 8.00. There are some where you can't build higher than the treetops (bummer!). There are also some more exotic locations, like on a bridge, in a mine, or on a huge plateau in the desert.

Satisfaction: This game was satisfying, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't as much as RCT. The plot was ageing a little and it was the same old thing over and over. I'm exadgerating a little here, but in the back of my mind, this was the case. Yet again, there was also no reward for beating all the scenarios. That was a little anti-climax.

Challenge: There was more challenge than in RCT. This was a great thing. I found myself slamming the keyboard in anger when I made a great roller coaster below the trees, but couldn't lay down the finishing track sections becasue I couldn't remove the trees (in THAT scenario)! Some scenarios I had to play twice to beat (gasp!) and sometimes I just barely met the requirements. LOL one time, right before the end of the last year I had to work with, people started getting lost for no reason and hence, my park rating went below the acceptable amount. I panicked and dropped some people near the exit to leave, then started drowning people. In the end, I had a 601 park rating and the minimum was 600. Whew.

Misc: Aside from the things I mentioned in the Roller Coaster Tycoon Review, there were a few new installments. For example, I LOVED adding music to my rides (and taking away the merry-go round music!). It really added a new atmosphere to my park. Another new thing was the signs. YOu could put a banner sign over a pathway to mark a section of your park. That added atmospere, too. Or, you cuold use them as "do not enter" signs, in case you were doing construction.

Multi-Player

There is no multi-player in this game.

Conclusion

Final Statements: This expansion pack really added on to the original RCT and continued to snowball its popularity. Very addictive and very fun.

Rating: 88/100

One of the new coasters in Added Attractions is a vertical coaster.

This was a park I started working on to refresh my memory of the game. As you can see, I still have the touch...

You can set up a mini-golf course in the new expansion, but you might want to drop an entertainer in the line for it, it goes slow!

Another view of my park. The Yellow coaster is a new one, a steel twister. There is also a wooden twister type. They both provide a smoother ride while allowing more flexible track. The house in the top/middle is a "crazy" fun house.

One of the new scenarios starts you out with a park containing 3 racing roller coasters...See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and Speak No Evil!

Here's a shot of some go-karts tangling a little with a roller coaster. One of the expert techniques to building an exciting ride is to build other rides really close.
